Within the IP team (40 people worldwide), this role will focus on patent procurement, and will
address several business units/ companies located in France and US (for the Montreal based
position). Reporting a senior patent attorney, the role includes :
■ leading invention identification sessions within selected projects;
■ drafting and filing patent applications;
■ training and assisting technologists in recognizing patentable inventions and submitting
invention disclosures;
■ overseeing and involvement in the invention disclosure submission and evaluation
■ preparing freedom-to-operate/clearance studies regarding third party patent rights;
■ participating in design review meetings, brainstorming sessions and innovation
■ coordinating international extension filings;
■ managing patent portfolios - including reviewing office actions and drafting response
based on feedback from the Business;
■ Communicating with outside attorneys; and providing other assistance and support to
R&D, marketing, and Legal department staff as required, including on opposition and
litigation matters and advising on IP related matters.
Profil du candidat
■ Preferably have degree in computer science or electrical engineering, with software
■ Minimum 4 years experience in the field of intellectual property in developing patent
portfolios, in particular in the area of computer science and software.
■ Qualified/partly qualified patent attorney (non qualified with experience in patent
prosecution also considered)
■ Demonstrated ability to develop and implement standards ensuring procurement of
patents of the highest quality and business relevance.
■ Ability to direct and manage outside counsel
■ Knowledge (relative to experience) of laws, rules, regulations and practice under EPO
and preferably also major European national patent systems would be a plus

■ Self starter / proactive - Proven ability to quickly identify, prioritize, and analyze issues, to
create solutions, to communicate in a counseling role, and to work effectively and team
with all levels of management.
